All through dinner I tried to get a read on Beau’s emotions. Problem was he came off as open, friendly, and genuinely interested in me and Emma—and not in a deceptive, creepy kind of way. He wanted to be helpful, at times he showed genuine concern. In short, he was irritating the fuck out of me, but I clamped down on that emotion so hard I should have been making him suspicious. Emma certainly kept casting me curious glances, sensing my emotions through our bond.
